Freshman year of college, we asked our drawing professor Yoonmi Nam what she missed about South Korea. I don’t remember her reply. Then we asked her what she liked about Kansas. And she said this:
The sky. There are no obstacles blocking the expanse. You can see all of it.
Being born and raised in Kansas and honestly not exploring much else at that point, I was caught off guard. I had never really acknowledged the sky. Five years later, I moved to New York, and it was one of the first things I missed. These immense, powerful, billowing clouds emerging from nowhere, dictating the day. I still miss the sky, and especially the thunder storms. They just aren’t the same here. So, I was excited to see this photo of Hoisington, Kansas on Best Made Co.’s Adventure Series.
